JP's Weekly Walk-off: Down the stretch

OSU fans in the Seattle area are excited about the prospects of a game at Safeco Field, but for the Beavers, the focus needs to be on successfully executing another business trip.  Facing the 10th place team in the league might seem to take some pressure off, but if the Beavs are to secure the final conference title before the Pac-10 becomes the Pac-12, they cannot afford a drop in intensity and focus.


  • Friday:  OSU 3 - Cal 0: Sam Gaviglio bounced back from his mini-slump and the Beavers notched their 6th shutout of the season.

  • Saturday:  Cal 6 - OSU 2: Josh Osich came back down to earth following his no-hitter, and OSU struggled in the field (3 errors) and at the plate (just 6 hits).

  • Sunday:  OSU 4 - Cal 2; Following the lead-off HR to start the game, Ben Wetzler allowed no runs and just three hits in his 7 innings of work.  Brian Stamps went 2-for-2 with a BB, 3 runs scored, and 2 SB.  

  • Tuesday: OSU 13 - Portland 3:  The Beavs started out looking a bit ragged and unfocused, but got things together and hammered the Pilots in the year's final non-conference game as Ryan Dunn hit for the cycle.
