JP's Weekly Walk-Off: Stanford

The Beavers are riding high following a sweep of ASU, but will face a difficult road test at Stanford as they continue their chase for the Pac-10 title.  Three of the four major polls jumped the Beavers 10 spots in their respective rankings (the fourth moved them up 4 spots), and this weekend will go a long way toward showing whether that rapid ascension was a needed correction for previously being under-rated, or perhaps a bit of an over-reaction to the sweep of ASU.

Two weeks ago the Beavers showed great resilience in recovering from an 18-0 loss in the opener to come back for the series win against Arizona.  Last week, the gritty play continued as they rallied late for wins in the first two games, then ground out a tough win on Sunday to pick up OSU's first ever home sweep against ASU.

  • Friday:  OSU 5 - ASU 3:  The Beavs fell behind 2-0 in the first, but Gaviglio got back on track and allowed just one more run in the game's final 8 innings.  The 8-9 hitters in the order, Ryan Dunn and Tyler Smith, drove in 4 of the 5 OSU runs and both had key hits during the 2-out rally in the 7th that saw the Beavers plate 4 to take the lead.
