July 25, 2013Waukon (Iowa) defensive end Glyeb Ewing committed to Oregon State earlier this week and he decided to go public with his choice on Thursday.
BeaverBlitz.com spoke with the 6-foot-5, 235-pound defensive lineman shortly after he went public with news of his verbal commitment, although he had told the coaches the news on Tuesday.
"I committed two days ago and I called three coaches and let them know," Ewing said. "I was really excited and they were all really excited. I'm excited to be a part of the family."
Ewing is a sleeper from a state that isn't evaluated as heavily as some others but he still drew interest and offers from some other FCS programs. He cited North Dakota as a school he gave serious consideration to.
But at the end of the day Oregon State was always head and shoulders above the competition and it wasn't a difficult decision.
"I finished my camp circuit and visited all these schools and Oregon State just kinda stood out to me," Ewing said. "It's one of the nicest schools I've been to, I love the program, the coaches were nice to me and it felt like family there. Plus the state of Oregon is a really nice place.
"It was really Oregon State most of the [recruiting process]," he said. "I had been to a couple of other schools but I was really hanging on Oregon State."
Ewing said he believes there is the potential for early playing time but no promises have been made. The coaches have told him to focus on his senior season in Iowa and then everything will work itself out beyond that.
