Burns comes up big at A-Day
Auburn's run game mostly had the day off in Saturday's A-Day game.
Instead, the Tigers focused on the passing game, with considerable success.
Co-No. 1 quarterbacks Kodi Burns and Chris Todd each threw touchdown passes as the Blue team - the first-team offense - hammered the White team, 30-14. Both quarterbacks took snaps for the Blue and White teams.
Auburn's scholarship running backs had a light workload. Ben Tate finished with 22 yards - and two touchdowns - on five carries. Tristan Davis had five carries for 17 yards, and Brad Lester didn't play.
Head coach Tommy Tuberville said he didn't want A-Day to focus on the run game, as it often has in the past.
"We're going to throw the ball quite a bit next year," said Tuberville. "We didn't play our running backs much. We're trying to get them healthy. We wanted to put pressure on the quarterbacks."
Both quarterbacks responded to the pressure. Burns, who won the Lionel James Offensive MVP Award, was 14-for-21 passing for 142 yards.
"I feel like I did pretty good," he said. "I can always improve, but I feel like I led my team down and got a few touchdowns and drove the ball up and down the field. Overall, I think I did pretty good."
