January Homestretch - Rumors and Strategies

On Sunday night Oregon State's recruiting class climbed to #35 with the commitment of QB Kyle Kempt. This would be the highest rated class since 2003 if LOI were today, but there's a lot more potential and a few surprises coming.

While the Oregon State staff continues to enjoy one of their most effective January recruiting performances in years, they are finding a balance between reloading and future planning. Whether this strategy is the result of Ryan Gunderson assuming more leadership or Mike Riley taking recruiting more seriously by positions, there seems to be stronger collaboration by this staff.

For example Coach and Mark Banker have put together one of the best defensive tackle classes in the country. On the other side of the ball Brent Brennan is quietly building a complimentary wide receiving class.

These coaches are taking different routes (JUCO vs Prep) this season, but the results align with the big picture. Despite the undeniable success at each position, these two coaches are still targeting more athletes for their units before the scholarship offers run dry.
