JP's Weekly Walk-Off: Stanford Cardinal
Jeff Perry
BeaverBlitz.com For the second consecutive home series, the Beavers will host a team that arrives ranked 7th in the ESPN/Coaches' poll. Fresh off a series win over UCLA, the Cardinal have played their way back into the discussion of earning a national seed, while the Beavers' series loss at USC means they need a series win to keep any dim hopes of hosting a regional alive.
THE WEEK THAT WAS
Friday: OSU 5 - USC 3 - Wetzler scattered 7 hits and 2 runs over 6.2 IP, as Ryan Dunn paced the offense with a 3-for-5 day that included a double and a HR.
Saturday: USC 3 - OSU 2 - Fry was not as sharp as the week before, but still turned in a gritty 6 hit, 3 run effort over 7.2 IP that unfortunately received very little offensive support (just 5 hits).
Sunday: USC 6 - OSU 2 - The Beavs put two on the board in the first inning, but did not cross the plate the rest of the way. Dan Child entered the game holding opponents to a .248 average, but gave up hits to 10 of the 17 batters he faced in 3 innings of work on a day where seemingly every time USC put the bat on the ball it seemed to find a safe landing spot.
THE WEEK AHEAD
The Beavers can ill afford to wallow in the disappointing finish to the series at USC, as they play four games against top-15 teams this week.
