JP's Weekly Walk-Off: Arizona State Sun Devils
Jeff Perry
BeaverBlitz.com The Beavers head to the southwest for a Pac-12 showdown with Arizona State and a pair of non-conference games against Nevada. The trip represents the most condensed portion of the OSU schedule this season, featuring five games in six days, and will offer a significant test to the depth of the pitching staff.
THE WEEK THAT WAS
- Saturday (1): UW 3 - OSU 2 (10 innings) - The bats and the bullpen couldn't make Wetzler's 8 IP of 3 hit, 1 run ball stand up as the Beavers fell to 1-2 in extra inning games.
- Saturday (2): OSU 9 - UW 0 - Child logged the Beavs' second great start of the day with 8 IP of 6 hit, scoreless ball while the offense banged out 15 hits and scored in 6 of 9 innings.
- Sunday: OSU 5 - UW 3 - This time it was Jace Fry's turn to lead the way on the mound, and the talented freshman followed the lead of Wetzler and Child with 7 IP of 2 hit ball. The bullpen made it interesting in the 9th loading the bases with just 1 out, but Bryant pulled it together at the end with a strikeout and a ground out back to the mound.
- Tuesday: OSU 8 - Portland 2 - Six pitchers and 22 total players combined to notch a quality mid-week win over a surprisingly strong UP squad that lead the nation in ERA heading into the game.
