JP's Weekly Walk-Off: Washington Huskies
The Beavers get the chance to remain in Corvallis on consecutive weekends for the first time this season as the Washington Huskies come to town. The Huskies seem a fitting opponent, as they, like the Beavers, are no strangers to wet weather and the weekend forecasts are calling for plenty of precipitation.
THE WEEK THAT WAS
Friday: OSU 6 - UA 5 - The Beavers nearly let one get away, allowing a 5-1 lead after 7 to turn into a 5-5 tie heading to the bottom of the 9th, but they were able to capitalize on an Arizona error and a Ryan Dunn RBI single to win it before extra innings were necessary.
Saturday: UA 5 - OSU 4 - The bullpen faltered again, allowing a 3-2 lead after 7 to turn into a 5-3 deficit that ultimately OSU could not overcome despite getting the tying run to 3rd base with just one out in the 9th.
Sunday: UA 7 - OSU 5 - After getting quality starts in the first two games, Jace Fry was unable to get out of the 5th inning, and while Matt Boyd was very good in relief the last 4+ innings, OSU bats managed just one hit the last 4 innings and could not mount a comeback once they fell behind 6-5.
THE WEEK AHEAD
After last week hosting one Pac-12 team that was a fixture in all the weekly polls, this week they face one that is somewhat surprisingly poised to break into the polls if they have a successful weekend. Tabbed 10th in the Pac-12 preseason coaches' poll and dead last by Baseball America, the Huskies are just a half game out of first place in the Pac-12 standings, and are tied with OSU for 4th in the conference in over-all winning percentage.
